Decatur Preservation Alliance
The Decatur Preservation Alliance (DPA) celebrated 10 years of preserving Decatur's historic structures and green spaces in 2010. The first DPA projects were saving Decatur's Historic Train Depot, pictured at left, and rescuing the circa 1870 Fraser building, currently located at the Church Street entrance to Decatur Cemetery. Over the years, the DPA vision expanded to include service to the community through Decatur's Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project, held annually in January. The 2012 Project was the 10th annual event sponsored by DPA in partnership with the City of Decatur. Friends of Decatur Cemetery is an active part of the DPA family, protecting the historical aspects of the cemetery. DPA oversaw the development of Woodlands Garden, the seven-acre green space gift from the Morse family, and was pleased to announce the independent organization -- Woodlands Garden of Decatur -- in September 2011.
